September 16, 2011

Olivet University  2011 Fall Convocation  was held on Thursday, Sept. 15 in the theater of  the newly acquired property in Scotts Valley, Calif., that once belonged to Bethany University of the Assemblies of God. The event welcomed new students, faculty, staff, and friends to a new a quarter and campus where Olivet classes will be  held.

After the opening procession of Olivet faculty, staff, and administration, Jubilee College of Music performed the opening song followed by the invocation by Dr. Chansamone Saiyasak, Founder and president of Mekong Bible Seminary in Thailand.

University president Dr. William Wagner opened with his personal greetings and introductions for the upcoming semester.  He gave thanks for the newly acquired campus and welcomed visiting professors who traveled to California for Olivet’s Doctoral Colloquium.

“This is our first convocation in the facilities that God has given to us,” said Dr. Wagner. “We are going to work hard to find ways that we can carry on the heritage and history and presentation of Bethany University.”

Dr. Wagner then introduced the evening’s convocation speaker Dr. Dankit Nassiuma, Vice Chancellor of Karabak University in Kenya.  Dr. Nassiuma spoke of transformation and looked at Paul in Romans 12 in transforming not to the world’s standards but proving what is accepting according to God’s standard.

“My prayer to each of you, part of the family of Olivet, is that you will be able in this new academic year to have a life of personal satisfaction,” said Dr. Nassiuma.

Olivet University’s 2011 Convocation concluded with Dr. Tony Sargent, Founder and Principal Emeritus of International Christian College giving the benediction.  Guests enjoyed a food and drink reception gathering after the event.
