God, Creation, the Incarnation
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course focuses upon the core of theological content of the historic Christian faith as presented in the gospel and the historic creeds: specifically we foucs the person of God in his trinitarian fulness, his work in creation and providence and the the self-revelation of God through the second person of the Trinity: the eternal Son of the Father whom we know as Jesus, Israel‟s promised Messiah.
RELATION TO THE COLLEGE STATEMENT OF MISSION:
Our university mission statement is:
“Olivet University is an institution of biblical higher education dedicated to training ministry-bound men and women as biblical scholars and leaders, and to equipping them with the practical skills to preach the Gospel effectively into and after the „network generation‟ – thus priming them to revolutionize the world through Christian mission.”
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completing this course, students should be able to:
1. recognize the significance and necessity of God's self-revelation for knowledge of Him.
2. apprehend the reality and necessity of the Trinity and the reasons it sets Christianity apart from other faiths.
3. Give a lucid explanation of God as Trinity.
4. Understand and articulate that God exists in dynamic fulness and relationship of love.
5. Explain the uniqueness of Jesus in his person and work.
6. To explain the various understandings of the atonement noting the strengths and weakness of the various explanations.
7. Articulate the vital reality of the resurrection and ascension and its importance for the Christian life today.
